15 Fascinating Science Facts That Will Blow Your Mind

The information we pick up sets the basis for all the other wonderful things we go on to study. But science certainly doesn't end up in high school, and once you get your learning to the next level, things get really fascinating.


1. Adult Humans can't breathe and swallow at the same time. Really not possible for us but babies can! Because in human infants, the larynx sits up high in the nasal cavity like a snorkel, so they can drink and breathe at the same time.


2. We often complain that airlines do not serve tasty food but it is not the fault of ground staff. At high altitude, our taste buds begin to baffle us. This is the reason food on flights nearly appear tasteless.


3. Somewhere. Billions of light years away. There’s a giant cloud floating through space. It consists of about 10 billion, billion, billion liters of alcohol. In addition, because of the specific type of chemical (ethyl formate), it probably tastes like rum. More specifically - Raspberry Rum. The place’s also known as Alcoholic Heaven.



4. The Earth appears to have a whole new underground continent called Zealandia. The discovery itself isn’t new – some geologists have been arguing for its existence for many years. Back in my day if we wanted chalk on our sidewalks, we had to draw it there ourselves. Damn kids these days with their bacteria and their rock music.

7. Studies have examined the potential that Neptune, Uranus, Jupiter, and Saturn have, to produce diamonds. The atmospheres in all four planets have such extreme pressure that they can crystalize carbon atoms and turn them into diamonds.


8. We all are breathing the same air that our ancestors used to breathe! Unlike Oxygen and the Nitrogen ( these gases are reactive and have their own cycles, so they get renewed ) we respire, there is a gas called argon and it is an inert gas. It means that it does not interact with any other element in the world. Therefore the same exact argon molecules that were here 100,000 years ago are still running around, in us and through us and they are unchanged because they don't react with any other substance in the elemental kingdom.


9. If some sort of super-advanced alien species on a planet 80 million light-years away from Earth built a high-tech telescope that let them see objects on the Earth's surface, they would be seeing dinosaurs right now.


10. There is another form of water called heavy water which formula is D2O. It is slightly heavier than normal water, blue and not drinkable.


11. If you take all the empty space out of an atom, you could fit mount Everest into an 8 oz cup.


12. Graham's number is a very big number. It has so many digits that even if you tried to write one digit on every atom in the entire universe, you wouldn't even make a dent. No wonder no-one ever calls him, ay?


13. If one spin a ball while dropping it, it will fly through the air as it falls and will not drop down straightly. This is called the Magnus effect, and it makes playing tennis and soccer a whole lot easier.


14. Every organism on earth has essentially the exact same length of evolutionary history. That bug you just stepped on has had the exact same amount of time to evolve as your best friend has. Also, if you don't reproduce, you will be the first direct organism in your direct lineage since the beginning of life to fail to do so.


15. There are 62,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body – laid end to end they would circle the earth 2.5 times.
